Nicky and I co-present the Perfecting Connecting – workshops which provide quality professional development for educators at all levels, pre-school, primary and high school. We also facilitate the Type for Teens workshops for students in Colleges, High Schools and youth groups. These have a focus either on leadership or career direction and are suitable from Y9 to Y13. For both of us it is work we enjoy enormously and find endlessly rewarding.
Nicky is a New Zealander, originally a Speech-Language Therapist with a degree in education, she is passionate about teaching and learning. Nicky currently tutors trainee Nannies in Children’s Communication Development and is a visiting lecturer at Carey Baptist College in Penrose where she teaches Speech Communication.
Nicky’s interest in Personality Type began in 1989 when she was required to take the Myers Briggs Type Indicator as part of her training. Since that time she has found the MBTI framework a valuable tool for understanding herself and others, resulting in more effective communication and improved relationships.
On her work with Youth she says:
“One of the most rewarding workshops I have lead has been the Type for Teens workshop with Sue Blair. The reaction to this workshop has been inspiring, showing this age group to be sponges for information about themselves and others, honest about their own preferences and keen to understand and communicate well with those who don’t share their preferences. I am enthusiastic about bringing this type of understanding to more teenagers in High schools and Colleges. An understanding of Personality type gives school leavers an incredible advantage in their ability to build and maintain relationships and make informed choices around career selection – it is a gift for life.”
Nicky is a mother of three and lives with her husband and family on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula north of Auckland.
APTi is the Association of Psychological Type International. It is a not-for-profit organization which promotes effective and ethical use of Jungian personality type.
Members come from a diverse range of professions and have a wide range of interests but have a common quest to understand more about personality type. In particular, how to weave this knowledge into personal and professional lives to encourage and support the people we serve who are important to us.
